Legislative Priorities

LWVFL works to advocate for better Florida for all by drafting, supporting and opposing state legislation. Our grassroots membership determines specific legislative goals within various policy issues each year.
REGISTERING
RETURNING CITIZENS

Ending disenfranchisement and discrimination against people with convictions is a priority for the Florida League following the passage of 2018’s Amendment 4.
VOTER SERVICES

Much of LWVFL’s history stems from our work to register, empower and educate voters. We work endlessly to register new voters, host candidate forums and educate the public on various issues.

REDISTRICTING
The League believes congressional districts and government legislative bodies should be apportioned substantially on population. We promote transparent and accountable redistricting processes to end hyper-partisan practices that don’t benefit constituents. We oppose partisan and racial gerrymandering that strips rights away from voters

Gov. Ron DeSantis has suspended Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren. DeSantis’ order does not cite any specific examples of Warren not prosecuting individual cases, pointing instead to Warren’s public comments on abortion, transgender issues and office policies Warren has adopted.
The governor’s decision to suspend State Attorney Andrew Warren is a stunning override of the the 369,129 Hillsborough County voters who cast their ballot for Warren in 2020, which made up 53.4 percent of turnout. ... See MoreSee Less

My BOCC voted in 2019 to make our county a "Second Amendment Sanctuary." They technically would refuse to enforce any federal legislation that they perceived as being anti-Second Amendment. But they were not fired.

He signed a letter stating exactly what crimes he would not prosecute???
Thank you Governor DeSantis. Our country would be a lot better if there were more Governors, Senators, Congress men and women and a president like you.
Man, being an evil dictator really ages you…
DeStalinist
Let's vote this guy out.
Nasty fascist with his cronies behind him.
Good riddance to the George Soros backed prosecutor - he never upheld the law, he thought he was above the law and now he is suspended!
Bye bye ! Another lawless POS hits the streets.
Really interesting take on reality, League. The man unequivocally stated he would not enforce specific laws. Also, interestingly, you are an organization that caters to women while you fail to recognize that women are most often effected by these criminals that Warren refuses to prosecute. It is not up to him to cherry pick. And DeSantis is absolutely with his executive rights to rid the citizens of Hillsborough County of this jerk. Your League does not represent me!

Kansas voters resoundingly decided against removing the right to abortion from the State Constitution, a major victory for the abortion rights movement in one of America’s reliably conservative states.
The defeat of the ballot referendum was the most tangible demonstration yet of a political backlash against the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Special thanks go to our sister state League, the League of Women Voters of Kansas, who helped inform voters on this measure! ... See MoreSee Less

Kansas = an island of sanity in the Midwest.
In Florida, all voters can vote in nonpartisan primary races — such as judicial, school board and municipal elections — if they live in the jurisdiction in which the race is.
