Advocacy Organizations Call for Governor’s Veto of Anti-Voter Initiative Bill

SB 1794 Veto Coalition

Veto of SB 1794 would uphold citizens’ rights to participate in direct democracy

A united group of advocacy organizations – including League of Women Voters of Florida, ACLU of Florida, Common Cause Florida, Florida AFL-CIO, Florida Conservation Voters, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Organize Florida, Progress Florida, Sierra Club Florida, Southern Poverty Law Center, and The New Florida Majority – have sent a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis that requests his veto of SB 1794. This bill severely limits citizens’ ability to petition their government and currently awaits the Governor’s final signature.

The League of Women Voters of Florida encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters of Florida Education Fund works to register voters, provide voters with election information through voter guides as well as candidate forums and debates.
