Florida Classic Welcome Reception

November 11, 2021

Nov. 19th | 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (EST) | Orlando, FL
 Ticketed Event

Please join the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association and the League of Women Voters of Florida for an elegant evening of Black art, R&B, conversation, mingling and updates on voting and redistricting updates from the President of the League of Women Voters of Florida, the first Black president of the Florida League. This is an evening of fun and civic education. We refer to this blend of entertainment and education as “edutainment.”  We will enjoy each others company while learning more about our voting rights as we peruse the beautiful art of African American artist: Ricky Steele.

Ricky Steele grew up drawing in pencil. His images were so life-like that he began to have a following. Years later, he has ventured into oils, pastels, acrylic, and watercolor. The grey tones of his pencils are now replaced with vibrant hues of red, yellow, green, and blue. His images grip you as they seem so real and like someone you know. Images of his people that touch your heart. Ricky is called the “Emotional painter.” Ricky’s vast repertoire covers people who are not famous and yet they are recognizable. They could be our mothers, brothers, and children and a series of African-American greats in music and in civil rights movement.

Join us on Friday, November 19th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for a wonderful visual journey through the Black experience. You will be able to purchase these artistic treasures. Originals will be available and stunning prints also.

EVENT ADDRESS: 100 Livingston Street, Orlando FL 32801
