The state government of Florida is established and operated according to the Constitution of Florida and is composed of three branches of government:
- The executive branch consisting of the Governor of Florida and the other elected and appointed constitutional officers.
- The legislative branch, the Florida Legislature, consisting of the Senate and House.
- The judicial branch consisting of the Supreme Court of Florida and lower courts.
The Florida Governor
Ron DeSantis serves as the as the 46th governor of Florida. DeSantis has served in the role since 2019.Â
Prior to serving as Governor, he represented Florida’s 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018.
The Florida House of Representatives
The Florida Senate and the Florida House of Representatives together are the Florida Legislature, a bicameral legislature.
The House of Representatives is composed of 120 members, each elected from single-member districts across the state.
The United States House of Representatives
The United States House of Representatives is a part of the United States Congress.
There are maximum 435 members in the United States House of Representatives. These members are called U. S. Representatives, Congressmen/Congresswomen or just representatives. Florida currently hold 27 of the 435 seats in Congress due to the state’s high population. The 27 seats are each elected from single-member districts across the state.

The Senate is composed of 40 members, each elected from single-member districts across the state.
The United States Senate
The United States Senate is part of the United States Congress, which is a small group of elected people who decide the laws of the country. Every U.S. state elects two people to represent them in the US Senate. Since there are 50 US states, there are 100 senators. Senators only serve six years at a time, and one-third of them are picked every two years.
Marco Rubio and Rick Scott currently serve as Florida’s two U.S. Senators.Â
